Eagles Deny Monks, 4-1

BANGOR, Maine – Husson University (2-2-0) scored twice in each half to defeat Saint Joseph's College (0-2-0), 4-1, in non-conference women's soccer action at John P. Boucher Field on Wednesday evening.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

The Eagles jumped ahead early when Addi Laslie netted the game's first goal, an unassisted tally, just over two minutes into the contest. Husson doubled its advantage in the 27th minute, when Jaquie Pangburn converted a feed from Hailey Tarbox. The hosts continued to pull away in the second half, as Emma Nicholson scored off a Thea Gerfen assist in the 49th minute and Pangburn struck for her second goal of the night less than two minutes later.

Saint Joseph's broke through late, when sophomore Sydney Gallop (Bangor, Maine) scored her first goal of the season in the 88th minute to spoil the shutout.

TEAM STATS:

Husson held the advantage in shots (21-9), shots on goal (8-2), and corner kicks (4-0) in the victory.

THE KEEPERS:

Saint Joseph's sophomore Ashlyn Guerette (Merrimack, N.H.) made four saves in the setback while Husson netminder Gabriella Smith did not make a save in her team's 4-1 triumph.

HISTORICALLY SPEAKING:

The setback moves the Monks to 36-8 in the all-time series with Husson, marking the programs' first meeting since 2019.

Saint Joseph's opens Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) play Saturday with a home matchup against Colby-Sawyer College. Kickoff is slated for 1:00 PM.
