STANDISH, Maine – #17 Colby College (6-0) defeated Saint Joseph's College (2-4), 3-0 (25-12, 25-16, 25-17) in a non-conference women's volleyball match on Mike McDevitt Court at the Harold Alfond Center on Tuesday night.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
The teams traded points early in the opening set, playing to a 6-6 tie before the Mules – ranked 17th in the latest American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA)/TARAFLEX weekly poll – strung together six unanswered points for a 12-6 lead. After a timeout, the Monks ended the run with back-to-back points, but Colby answered with another 6-0 spurt to establish an 18-8 cushion and cruised to a 25-12 victory.
Saint Joseph's showed resilience in the second set, taking an 8-7 lead behind three kills from senior Victoria Briones (El Paso, Texas). Colby responded with a 9-2 run, keyed by four kills from junior Brady Moseley (San Juan Capistrano, Calif.), to pull ahead 16-10. The Mules posted a .364 hitting percentage (12 kills, four errors, 22 attempts) in the frame to claim a 2-0 advantage.
The Monks continued to battle in the third set and trailed by just one (17-16) before Colby closed with an 8-1 surge to clinch the straight-set victory and remain undefeated.

Colby held the edge in kills (34-23), service aces (9-3), blocks (4-3), assists (32-23), and digs (22-20).
