Monks Blank Beavers, 3-0

FARMINGTON, Maine – Saint Joseph's College (3-2) blanked UMaine-Farmington (3-3), 3-0, in a non-conference field hockey contest on Monday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

The Monks set the tone early with a pair of first-half strikes. Senior forward Maya Waryas (Bellows Falls, Vt.) opened the scoring in the first quarter with her seventh goal of the season at the 10:37 mark. Saint Joseph's doubled the advantage midway through the second quarter when junior Kienna Haley (Scarborough, Maine) buried a feed from Ava Markham (Belfast, Maine) and Waryas at 19:26. Haley struck again early in the third quarter, converting a penalty stroke in the 36th minute for her fifth tally of the year, pushing the Monks' lead to three.

TEAM STATS:

Saint Joseph's dominated the stat sheet, holding decisive advantages in shots (22-0), shots on goal (15-0), and penalty corners (8-3).

THE KEEPERS:

The Monks split time in the cage, with junior Kimberley McLaughlin (Lewiston, Maine) handling the first half and senior Paige DeMascio (Greene, Maine) covering the second. Neither keeper faced a shot in the shutout. UMaine-Farmington netminder Ella Grant recorded 10 saves in the setback.

HISTORICALLY SPEAKING:

Saint Joseph's improves to 18-21 all-time against Farmington and has now won 10 straight meetings in the series dating back to 2013.
