Game Recap: Field Hockey |

Bulldogs Nip Monks, 4-2

FRANKLIN, Mass. – Dean College (5-5, 2-1 GNAC) scored twice in both the first and third quarters to outlast Saint Joseph's College (4-3, 3-1 GNAC), 4-2, in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) field hockey contest on Wednesday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

Dean struck first when Sydnee Ramos tallied just 8:36 into play off a feed from Emily Yazzetti. Saint Joseph's answered three minutes later, as senior Emilia Galimberti (Wolfeboro, N.H.) buried the equalizer at the 11:46 mark. The Bulldogs quickly regained the lead in the 15th minute, when Katrina Lee found the back of the cage with help from Jordan Boelig.

Dean's 2-1 advantage carried into intermission, but the hosts wasted little time extending their cushion, as Yazzetti converted a penalty stroke just 39 seconds into the third quarter. Ramos added her second of the game with 4:19 left in the period, stretching the Bulldogs' lead to 4-1.

The Monks continued to battle and were rewarded late, when senior Kienna Haley (Scarborough, Maine) tipped in a Galimberti shot with 2:49 remaining to account for the 4-2 final.

TEAM STATS:

The teams finished even in shots (19-19), while Dean held a slight edge in shots on goal (14-12). Saint Joseph's owned a 9-6 advantage in penalty corners.

THE KEEPERS:

SJC junior Kimberley McLaughlin (Lewiston, Maine) registered eight saves in 40:41 minutes of action, while senior Paige DeMascio (Greene, Maine) stopped two shots in 19:19 of relief. Dean goalkeeper Sara Gardner turned away 10 shots in the victory.

HISTORICALLY SPEAKING:

The Monks are now 4-1 all-time versus Dean. The Bulldogs' win comes a year after Saint Joseph's edged Dean, 1-0, in Standish.
