STANDISH, Maine – Lasell University (4-1-2, 3-0-1 GNAC) freshman Ayla Hathaway (Ballston Spa, N.Y.) scored in the 62nd minute to break a scoreless tie and lift the Lasers past Saint Joseph's College (2-5-0, 2-3-0 GNAC), 1-0, in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) women's soccer action at the SJC Athletic Complex on Saturday afternoon.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
The conference tilt featured plenty of back-and-forth midfield play as both teams contended with unseasonably warm conditions throughout the afternoon. Hathaway broke the deadlock in the 62nd minute, cleaning up a rebound in the crease for her third goal of the season and the eventual game-winner.
The Monks generated a handful of dangerous opportunities, including in the 72nd minute when senior Sydney Gallop (Hermon, Maine) lofted a shot just over the crossbar, but the hosts were unable to find the equalizer.
TEAM STATS:
Lasell held the advantage in shots (15-6), shots on goal (10-3), and corner kicks (7-3).
THE KEEPERS:
SJC sophomore goalkeeper Ashlyn Guerette (Merrimack, N.H.) recorded nine saves in the setback, while Lasell senior netminder Elizabeth DaSilva (Somerville, Mass.) tallied three stops en route to the shutout.
HISTORICALLY SPEAKING:
With the result, Saint Joseph's drops to 6-17-2 all-time versus Lasell, which has now claimed seven straight wins in the series dating back to 2019.
