Monks Sweep GNAC Tri-Match

HENNIKER, N.H. – Saint Joseph's College (6-7, 3-0 GNAC) blanked New England College (3-0, 25-17, 25-21, 25-20) and Albertus Magnus College (3-0, 25-16, 25-18, 25-17) in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference tri-match at Bridges Gym on Saturday.

Saint Joseph's def. New England College, 3-0:

In the opening set, the Monks hit .269 while limiting NEC to a negative attack percentage (-.048). Saint Joseph's committed just six errors compared to the Pilgrims' 13 and cruised to a 25–17 victory.

The second set featured five ties and four lead changes before the score sat at 13–13 midway through. The Monks used a 4–1 spurt to create separation at 18–15 and maintained control from there, closing on another 4–1 run capped by a Maddie Garrett (Euless, Texas) kill to secure the 25–21 win and a 2–0 match lead.

Saint Joseph's sealed the sweep with a 25–20 triumph in the third set, hitting .345 with 14 kills against just four errors on 29 attempts. NEC trailed by a point at 12–11 before the Monks put together a 5–1 run to stretch the lead to 17–12. The Pilgrims fought back within two at 18–16, but Saint Joseph's answered with timely kills and closed on a 4–2 run to clinch the set and the 3–0 match victory.

Saint Joseph's set the tone early, hitting .222 with 12 kills against six errors on 27 swings, while holding Albertus Magnus to just six kills and a .051 percentage. Behind efficient sideout play (56%), the Monks built an early cushion and cruised to a 25–16 opening-set victory.

The Monks raised their level in the second frame, posting 13 kills on a .250 clip. Albertus Magnus answered with 11 kills but was hampered by eight errors and a .100 percentage. Steady sideout execution (68%) allowed Saint Joseph's to control the pace and finish off a 25–18 win for a 2–0 match lead.

Saint Joseph's saved its sharpest performance for the third set, hitting .344 with 14 kills and only three miscues on 32 attempts. The Falcons managed 10 kills at a .200 mark, but the Monks were in command throughout, siding out at a match-best 76% and sealing the sweep with a 25–17 triumph.
