Saint Joseph’s Blanks Mitchell, 5-0

NEW LONDON, Conn. – Five different players found the back of the net to help Saint Joseph's College (3-5-0, 3-1-0 GNAC) topple Mitchell College (1-7-1, 1-2-1 GNAC), 5-0, in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) men's soccer action on Saturday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

Saint Joseph's opened the scoring in the 13th minute when junior Diego Robinson (Hinesburg, Vt.) netted his first goal of the season off a setup from senior Joseph Perron (South Portland, Maine). The Monks doubled their advantage in the 26th minute as junior Zander Haskell (Scarborough, Maine) tallied his first collegiate goal, with sophomore Nick Marion (Windham, Maine) earning the assist.

Junior forward Divin Mpinga (Kinshasa, DRC) made it 3-0 in the 39th minute with his first tally of the year, set up by sophomore Godin Ndayishimiye (Burundi). Early in the second half, Marion recorded his team-leading sixth goal of the season off a feed from freshman Keegan Cary (Hallowell, Maine). Sophomore Curtis Metcalf (South Portland, Maine) capped the scoring in the 71st minute with his second goal of the campaign.

TEAM STATS:

The Monks held advantages in shots (23-8), shots on goal (12-3), and corner kicks (5-1).

THE KEEPERS:

SJC senior Logan Davis (Naples, Maine) earned the start and made two saves over 74:45 of action. Freshman Ziggy Babbott (Hinesburg, Vt.) closed out the contest with 15:15 in goal, stopping the lone shot he faced. Mitchell goalkeeper Gabriel Tiene posted seven saves in a complete-game effort.

HISTORICALLY SPEAKING:
