STANDISH, Maine – No. 14 Bates College (16-2, 3-1 NESCAC) defeated Saint Joseph's College (7-10, 2-2 GNAC), 83-45, in a non-conference women's basketball game on Mike McDevitt Court at the Harold Alfond Center on Saturday afternoon.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
The Monks maintained a manageable margin in the first half, as a traditional three-point play from senior Madison Lebel (Hermon, Maine) cut the Bates lead to 26-23 with 6:09 remaining before the break. The Bobcats closed the second quarter with a 9-0 run and headed into intermission with a 35-23 advantage.
The Bates surge continued in the third period, as the visitors opened the quarter with a 14-3 run to build a 49-26 cushion with 4:44 left in the frame. Saint Joseph's was unable to stem the tide in the penultimate period, as Bates outscored the Monks 28-11 over 10 minutes and carried a 63-34 lead into the fourth.
The Monks could not cut into the deficit in the final frame, as the Bobcats shot 58.3% (7-of-12) from the floor and held a 20-11 edge in the quarter.

Bates converted 23 Saint Joseph's turnovers into 29 points and committed just 12 miscues—off which the Monks scored zero points—in the victory. The Bobcats shot 52.2% (35-of-67) from the field while Saint Joseph's shot 32.1% (17-of-53) overall.
