BOSTON, Mass. – A small group of Saint Joseph's College track and field athletes took advantage of the fast surface at the BU John Thomas Terrier Classic on Saturday, using the mid-season test to sharpen up against top regional and Division I competition while rewriting four school records in the process.
FOR THE WOMEN
Freshman
Olivea Miller (Livermore Falls, Maine) and junior
Audrey Bilodeau (Lewiston, Maine) opened the day in the 200 meters, running 27.24 and 27.80, respectively.
The 400 meters proved to be the headline event. Junior
Ava Smart (South Portland, Maine) first broke the school record with a 1:03.08 clocking, and freshman
Amber Pendleton (Warren, Maine) followed in a later section to lower the standard again to 1:02.78.
In the mid-distance races, senior
Alexia Young (Rochester, N.H.) ran 2:34.21 in the 800 meters, while sophomore
Bella Koepsell (Falmouth, Maine) turned in a 5:55.77 performance in the mile.
Capping the day, Smart, Bilodeau, Koepsell, and Pendleton combined in the 4x400-meter relay to post a new school record of 4:16.86. In the field, junior
Breya Whitman (Auburn, Maine) cleared 1.53m (5' 0.25") in the high jump.
FOR THE MEN
Junior
Jacob Schmader (Limington, Maine) led the sprint group with a 23.22 showing in the 200 meters and a 51.27 effort in the 400, while senior
Abdirizak Abukar (Lewiston, Maine) crossed in 51.10 for his section of the 400.
In the mid-distance events, junior
Haytham Ramadan and sophomore
Isaac Keresey (Pittsfield, Maine) posted times of 1:56.95 and 1:57.14, respectively, in the 800 meters. Keresey doubled back later in the meet to run 4:29.06 in the mile.
Senior
Jacob Pelletier (Augusta, Maine) closed the day for the Monks with a standout performance in the 3000 meters, running 8:55.63 to set a new school record, breaking his own previous program mark.
