Box Score FRANKLIN, Mass. – Saint Joseph's College (4-2-5, 3-0-4 GNAC) defeated Dean College (0-7-4, 0-4-3 GNAC), 2-0, in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) men's soccer action on Saturday afternoon at Longley Field.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
The teams played a scoreless first half, with Saint Joseph's holding a 7-6 edge in shots. The Monks put three attempts on target, while senior goalkeeper Alex Bachmann (Scarborough, Maine) made two saves, including a stop at 43:35 to keep the contest scoreless heading into halftime.
Saint Joseph's continued to press after the break, forcing three saves in the opening 13 minutes of the second half. The Monks broke through at 64:30, when graduate student Hayes Sweeney (Hollis, Maine) scored his first goal of the season - and fifth of his career - off an assist from freshman Damir Brkic (South Portland, Maine).
Junior Godin Ndayishimiye (Bujumbura, Burundi) doubled the lead at 78:12, netting his fourth goal of the season off a feed from sophomore Zach Britton (Scarborough, Maine).
Bachmann made two saves in the final seven minutes to preserve the shutout and secure the conference victory.
TEAM STATS:
Saint Joseph's held the advantage in shots (16-14), shots on goal (8-4) and corner kicks (2-0) in the conference contest.
THE KEEPERS:
Bachmann recorded four saves in 90 minutes to earn the shutout for the Monks. Dean goalkeeper Noah Amaral made six saves in the setback.
HISTORICALLY SPEAKING:
Saint Joseph's improved to 7-0 all-time against Dean College. The Monks have posted shutouts in six of the seven meetings and outscored the Bulldogs by a combined 24-1 margin since the series began in 2021.
