STANDISH, Maine – Top-seeded Saint Joseph's College (18-8) advanced to the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Tournament semifinal round with an 85-62 victory over #8 Norwich University (10-16)in a conference quarterfinal at the Harold Alfond Center on Wednesday night.
Saint Joseph's has now won 15 consecutive games, a streak that began with an 87-70 victory over Ithaca College on January 3rd.
PLAYOFF IMPLICATIONS:
With the win, Saint Joseph's moves on to the GNAC Tournament semifinal round and will host #5 Emmanuel College in second-round action on Friday at 7:00 PM.
For Norwich, the loss closes the book on the Cadets' 2025-26 campaign.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
Saint Joseph's set the tone immediately and controlled the game from start to finish, opening with an 8-2 run and never trailing. The Monks used a balanced attack and solid defensive effort to build a 38-23 halftime advantage.
SJC came out of the break with another push and quickly stretched the margin to 22 points (48-26) less than three minutes into the second half. A John Paul Frazier (York, Maine) three-pointer helped fuel the surge as the Monks kept the Cadets from gaining momentum.
Norwich was unable to trim the deficit to single digits in the final 20 minutes and Saint Joseph's eventually built its largest lead of the night at 28 points before emptying the bench late in the contest.
STATS OF THE GAME:
Saint Joseph's shot 44.3% (31-70) from the field, 37.5% (12-32) from three-point range, and 73.7% (14-19) from the free-throw line.
Norwich finished at 35.5% (22-62) from the floor, 22.7% (5-22) from beyond the arc, and 68.4% (13-19) at the stripe.
The Monks controlled the glass, 50-33, and totaled 23 assists, 17 points off turnovers, and 18 fast-break points in the victory.
