SALINAS, P.R. – Saint Joseph's College (1-3) dropped a 14-3 decision to Dickinson College (5-2) in Puerto Rico Classic women's lacrosse action on Thursday morning at Albergue Olympic TC.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
Dickinson grabbed control from the outset, scoring six times in the opening quarter to build a 6-0 lead. Eva Gardner opened the scoring 39 seconds into the contest and Grace Kelly followed with three first-half goals as the Red Devils carried the early play.
The Red Devils pushed the margin to 8-0 with a pair of goals in the opening 4:06 of the second quarter before Saint Joseph's answered. Senior Celia Melanson (Waterford, Maine) put the Monks on the board with a free-position tally at the 10:02 mark and then assisted on a man-up marker by junior Taylor Dumond (Minisink, N.Y.) 77 seconds later to cut the deficit to 8-2 heading into halftime.
Dickinson regained command in the second half, scoring three times in the third quarter and the first three goals of the fourth to stretch the lead to 14-2. Senior Sophia Burton (Minisink, N.Y.) closed the scoring with 2:40 left in regulation when she converted a feed from Melanson for Saint Joseph's final tally.
STATS OF THE GAME:
Dickinson finished with advantages in shots (35-9), shots on goal (20-4), and ground balls (20-16), while Saint Joseph's committed 22 turnovers in the setback. The Monks were solid in transition, however, completing 15 of 16 clear attempts and edging the Red Devils in draw controls, 10-9.

Junior Julia Price (Newbury, Mass.) totaled 12 saves and picked up four ground balls over 48:52 in net. Senior Alexis Eldridge (Effingham, N.H.) played the final 11:08 and made three saves without allowing a goal.
Dickinson:
Brynna O'Brien earned the win after starting the first half, while Lydia Mossi made two saves over the final 30 minutes.
