Monks Defeat Falcons, 19-3

STANDISH, Maine – Saint Joseph's College (7-5, 6-1 GNAC) turned in a commanding performance on Saturday afternoon, defeating Albertus Magnus College (3-8, 1-6 GNAC), 19-3, in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) men's lacrosse action at the SJC Athletics Complex.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

Saint Joseph's set the tone early, scoring four times in the opening quarter behind goals from senior David Cook (Upton, Mass.), junior Joseph Kiedaisch (Westminster, Mass.), junior Brandon Cavicchi (Kingston, Mass.), and junior Nicolas Michaud (Wales, Maine) to build a 4-0 lead.

The Monks added three more goals in the second quarter to take a 7-0 advantage into halftime, with Kiedaisch scoring again, senior Jason Dernier (Marshfield, Mass.) netting his first goal of the season, and Cook adding a late tally.

Saint Joseph's broke the game open in the third quarter by outscoring Albertus Magnus, 8-1, with Cavicchi, Michaud, Kiedaisch, sophomore Caleb Reardon (Belchertown, Mass.), sophomore Noah Schaeffer (Gray, Maine), and junior Andre Pelletier (East Barre, Vt.) all contributing during the surge. The Monks then added four more goals in the fourth quarter, including two by Reardon, to finish off the 19-3 victory.

STATS OF THE GAME:

Saint Joseph's controlled the action throughout, holding advantages in shots (55-6), shots on goal (35-3), ground balls (41-18), and face-offs (19-6). The Monks also excelled on clears, converting 29 of 35 attempts, and went 1-for-2 on extra-man opportunities.

THE KEEPERS:

The Monks split time in net, with junior Reed Wescott (Windham, Maine) earning the victory. Freshman Sean Cushing (Nobleboro, Maine) played the fourth quarter.

Albertus Magnus freshman goalkeeper Alexis Gonzalez (Edison, N.J.) recorded 16 saves in the loss.
