Saint Joseph’s Women Turn In Strong Meet at Fitchburg State

FITCHBURG, Mass. – The Saint Joseph's College women's track & field team turned in a strong all-around performance at the 2026 Jim Sheehan Memorial Meet on Saturday, highlighted by an event title in the javelin, a runner-up finish in the 4x400-meter relay, a DIII New England qualifying mark in the hurdles, and scoring performances across the sprints, distance events, jumps, and throws.

"I thought we were bought in and battled well throughout the day," said Saint Joseph's head coach Mike Burleson. "We saw some strong performances including two men's and women's school records that will make an impact and really help us cover events at the conference meet. We're excited to be back home next week and look to keep building momentum and put down some solid marks heading into the championship phase of the season."

The Monks were led by sophomore Ellie Leech, who won the javelin with a DIII New England qualifying throw of 35.68 meters (117' 1") and also placed third in the shot put with a mark of 10.43 meters (34' 2.75"). Junior Audrey Bilodeau added a pair of strong hurdle performances, taking third in the 100-meter hurdles in a DIII New England qualifying time of 16.01 and fourth in the 400-meter hurdles in 1:10.21. Freshman Meghan Cyr also turned in a runner-up finish for Saint Joseph's in the 10,000 meters with a time of 42:45.49, while the 4x400-meter relay team of Alexia Young, Cheri Willems, Bella Koepsell, and Amber Pendleton placed second overall in 4:21.89.

SPRINTS AND RELAYS
Freshman Olivea Miller paced the Monks in the 100 meters with a 10th-place finish in 13.03. Junior Alexis Cowan followed in 14.01, freshman Kaitlin Tallman posted a 14.11, freshman Hallye King ran 14.22, and junior Jemima Kabangu added a 15.34. In the 200 meters, freshman Emma Jones turned in a 12th-place finish in 28.27, while sophomore Cheri Willems posted a 1:08.44 in the 400 meters.

Saint Joseph's also excelled in relay action, as the 4x400-meter team of Young, Willems, Koepsell, and Pendleton placed second in 4:21.89.

MID-DISTANCE AND DISTANCE
Freshman Amber Pendleton led the Monks in the 800 meters with an eighth-place finish in 2:28.68, while sophomore Bella Koepsell was right behind in ninth at 2:29.43. Cyr delivered one of the team's top track efforts of the day with her second-place finish in the 10,000 meters in 42:45.49.

HURDLES
Bilodeau led the hurdle crew with a third-place finish and DIII New England qualifying time of 16.01 in the 100-meter hurdles. She later added a fourth-place finish in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 1:10.21. Sophomore Olivia Bean also scored in the 400 hurdles, placing eighth in 1:16.40.

JUMPS
Sophomore Ella Labrie led the Monks in the horizontal jumps, placing fifth in the long jump with a leap of 5.06 meters (16' 7.25") and fourth in the triple jump with a mark of 10.31 meters (33' 10"). Miller also scored in the long jump, placing seventh with a mark of 4.89 meters (16' 0.5"), while Bean reached 4.67 meters, Tallman posted 4.49 meters, King hit 4.43 meters, and freshman Natalie Young landed at 4.39 meters. Junior Samira Mohamed added a 3.82-meter mark, while Huot and Cowan were unable to record legal marks.

In the triple jump, Bean added a seventh-place finish with a leap of 10.08 meters (33' 1"), while junior Breya Whitman  reached 9.51 meters and Mohamed posted 8.28 meters. Whitman also led the Monks in the high jump with a fourth-place clearance of 1.47 meters (4' 9.75"), while sophomore Berkley Hutchins cleared 1.37 meters (4' 6"). Junior Jordan Huntley cleared 2.00 meters (6' 6.75") in the pole vault.

THROWS
Leech delivered the top field performance of the day for Saint Joseph's with her winning throw in the javelin and added another scoring mark in the shot put. Hutchins placed 20th in the shot put with a toss of 8.82 meters (28' 11.25"), and freshman Grace Cunningham added a 7.44-meter effort.

In the discus, freshman Adriana Olson led the Monks with a throw of 25.11 meters (82' 4"), followed closely by Haley Lang at 24.81 meters (81' 5") and Cunningham at 21.61 meters (70' 11"). Lang paced the Monks in the hammer throw with a mark of 26.05 meters (85' 5"), just ahead of Hutchins at 26.04 meters (85' 5"). Olson added a 23.94-meter toss, while Kabangu reached 23.28 meters. In the javelin behind Leech, Lang posted 23.97 meters (78' 8") and Sarah Richard-Cote reached 21.71 meters (71' 3").
