Monks Win Elimination Game, Fall to Falcons in Extras to End Season

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Saint Joseph's College (19-22) split a pair of GNAC Tournament contests on Saturday, rolling to a 12-0 five-inning elimination-game victory over Lasell University (12-21) before suffering a 7-6 setback in 10 innings to Pod host Albertus Magnus College (23-17). The Monks piled up 24 hits over the two games and extended their season with an offensive outburst against the Lasers before seeing their postseason run end in a back-and-forth extra-inning battle with the Falcons.

GAME ONE – Saint Joseph's 12, Lasell 0 (5 inn.):

HOW IT HAPPENED:

Saint Joseph's seized control immediately, scoring three times in the first before adding five runs in the second and four more in the third. Senior Chantelle Bouchard (Biddeford, Maine) delivered a two-run double in the opening frame, sophomore Addison French (Rochester, N.H.) drove in a run in the second, and senior Sadie Tirrell (Naples, Maine) capped both the second and third innings with two-run hits as the Monks turned the elimination game into a rout.

The Monks finished with 10 hits and did not allow Lasell to mount a threat. Saint Joseph's retired the final seven batters of the game and closed out the mercy-rule victory after just five innings to advance to the pod final.
