Monks Open 2026 Slate with Four-Set Win over Huskies

GORHAM, Maine – Senior outside hitter Greta Mackintosh (Plymouth, Mass.) posted 14 kills and a .355 hitting percentage to help Saint Joseph's College (1-0) defeat the University of Southern Maine (0-1), 3-1, in the 2026 women's volleyball season opener at Hill Gym on Tuesday evening.

The Monks earned the victory by set scores of 25-15, 25-20, 26-28, and 25-22.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

Saint Joseph's opened the match with eight unanswered points and maintained control throughout the first set. The Monks registered 15 kills with a .333 attack percentage in the 25-15 victory.

SJC secured a 2-0 match advantage with a 25-20 triumph in the second set. Southern Maine extended the contest by edging the Monks in a back-and-forth third frame, 28-26.

The Huskies opened the fourth set with a 5-0 run, but Saint Joseph's responded and took its first lead at 10-9. With the score tied at 21-21, the Monks closed the match with a 4-1 surge capped by a Mackintosh kill.

TEAM STATS:

Saint Joseph's held advantages in kills (48-36), assists (44-32), service aces (21-9), and attack percentage (.168-.122). Both teams recorded 51 digs.

LEADERS – SAINT JOSEPH'S:

  • Mackintosh tallied 14 kills, two aces, and a solo block
  • Sophomore Addison Thomas (London, Ohio) recorded eight kills and a match-high five service aces
  • Senior Larisa Comolli (Nashua, N.H.) added six kills and a solo block
  • Sophomore Maddie Garrett (Euless, Texas) dished out 26 assists and served three aces
  • Sophomore Livy McDonough (West Friendship, Md.) registered a match-high 16 digs along with four aces
  • Junior Riley Greenley (Newark, Del.) contributed eight assists and three aces

LEADERS – SOUTHERN MAINE:

  • Anyelis Hernandez led the Huskies with 11 kills
  • Sofia Daoud collected a match-high 21 digs
  • Haylie Bidegain added five kills, five service aces, and three total blocks

NEXT!

Saint Joseph's heads to Virginia Beach, Virginia, to face Millikin University at 1:00 PM on Friday. The Monks will also take on Rowan (Friday, 3:00 PM), Swarthmore (Saturday, 10:00 AM), and William Peace (Saturday, 12:00 PM) during the southern swing.
