BANGOR, Maine – Junior midfielder Zoey Lailer (Limington, Maine) scored twice, including the game-winner in overtime, as Saint Joseph's College (2-2) rallied past Husson University (0-4), 2-1, in non-conference field hockey action at the Winkin Complex on Saturday evening.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

The in-state rivals played through three scoreless quarters before Husson broke the deadlock in the 52nd minute. Faith Tillotson scored off a Lauren Millett feed at the 51:51 mark to give the Eagles a 1-0 advantage.

Saint Joseph's answered less than five minutes later. Following an SJC penalty corner, Lailer converted a pass from freshman Dasia Alberico (Skowhegan, Maine) at 56:19 to send the game into overtime.

The Monks applied steady pressure during the extra period and earned three penalty corners during a 52-second span. On what proved to be the final corner attempt of the game, freshman Lily Huntley (Wilton, Maine) rang a shot off the post at the 63:53 mark. Lailer gathered the rebound and scored the game-winner five seconds later.

THE KEEPERS:

Senior goalkeeper Kimberley McLaughlin (Lewiston, Maine) made five saves to earn the victory for Saint Joseph's. Husson goalkeeper Ella Duchette did not record a save in the setback.

TEAM STATISTICS:

Husson held slim advantages in shots (7-6), shots on goal (6-2), and penalty corners (12-9). After being held without a shot through the first three quarters, the Monks generated six attempts over the fourth quarter and overtime.

HISTORICALLY SPEAKING:

The victory snapped a three-game losing streak against Husson - by a combined score of 15-1 - and marked the Monks' first win over the Eagles since a 2-0 triumph in 2022. Saint Joseph's improves to 17-22 in the all-time series.
