STANDISH, Maine – Junior forward Nick Marion (Windham, Maine) scored twice and added two assists to help lift Saint Joseph's College (1-0-0) past the University of Maine at Farmington (0-1-0), 5-0, in non-conference men's soccer action at the SJC Athletics Complex on Tuesday evening. The contest served as the 2026 season opener for both teams.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
First-year Damir Brkic (South Portland, Maine) opened the scoring with his first collegiate goal in the 16th minute. After receiving a pass from Marion, Brkic fired a shot from just outside the box into the upper-right corner.
The Monks doubled their advantage just over five minutes later when senior Cole Bishop (Gorham, Maine) tapped home a loose ball during a scrum inside the box. Brkic was credited with the assist.
Marion scored on either side of halftime, with both goals assisted by graduate student Hayes Sweeney (Hollis, Maine). Marion's first strike came in the 35th minute, and he added his second in the 48th to extend the hosts' lead to 4-0.
Sophomore Mattheus Silva (Acton, Mass.) completed the scoring in the 67th minute, converting a slick lead pass from Marion for his first goal of the season.
TEAM STATS:
Saint Joseph's held advantages in shots (21-5), shots on goal (13-3), and corner kicks (9-1) in the shutout victory.
THE KEEPERS:
SJC senior Alex Bachmann (Scarborough, Maine) stopped all three shots he faced to record a shutout in his debut with the Monks.
The Beavers split time in goal. Junior starter Parker Day (Brentwood, N.H.) allowed three goals and made five saves during the first half, while junior Dylan Gagnon (Hudson, N.H.) surrendered two goals and recorded three saves in the second stanza.
HISTORICALLY SPEAKING:
With the victory, Saint Joseph's improves to 10-17-4 in the all-time series against UMaine-Farmington. The Monks are undefeated in 12 consecutive meetings with the Beavers dating back to the 2007 season.
