NORTHFIELD, Vt. – Saint Joseph's College (7-6, 3-1 GNAC) swept Norwich University (1-8, 0-4 GNAC), 3-0, Saturday afternoon in Great Northeast Athletic Conference women's volleyball action. The Monks won by scores of 25-19, 25-16, and 25-9.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
Norwich opened the first set with a 7-2 lead, but Saint Joseph's scored five straight points to tie it. The Monks took the lead for good at 14-13 and closed out the set, 25-19.
Saint Joseph's pulled away in the second set, building a 15-6 advantage on its way to a 25-16 win. The Monks carried that momentum into the third, racing ahead 21-5 before freshman Sophia Fallon (New Canaan, Conn.) delivered the match-ending kill.
TEAM STATS:
Saint Joseph's held the advantage in kills (35-15), assists (32-13), service aces (16-5), and digs (58-42) while hitting .204 to Norwich's .000.
LEADERS – SAINT JOSEPH'S:
- Fallon led the Monks with nine kills on 16 attempts for a .438 hitting percentage. She added two service aces, a solo block, and a block assist.
- Senior Greta Mackintosh (Plymouth, Mass.) recorded eight kills on 14 attempts and hit a team-high .500.
- Sophomore Addison Thomas (London, Ohio) contributed six kills on 14 attempts for a .429 hitting percentage and added four digs.
- Sophomore Livy McDonough (West Friendship, Md.) collected a match-high four service aces and 10 digs.
- Junior Riley Greenley (Newark, Del.) handed out 15 assists to go with three service aces and five digs.
- Sophomore Maddie Garrett (Euless, Texas) added 10 assists, two service aces, and four digs.
- Senior Jessica Christman (Virginia Beach, Va.) recorded eight digs and two service aces, while senior Sabrina Arcilla (Rivervale, N.J.) posted nine digs.
LEADERS – NORWICH:
- Grace Davie led the Cadets with four kills on 11 attempts for a .364 hitting percentage.
- Vanessa Whitmill recorded a team-high 11 digs to go with three kills and two service aces.
- Ainslee Vargas handed out 12 assists and added eight digs and two kills.
- Kelsey Slane contributed nine digs and a service ace.
HISTORICALLY SPEAKING:
Saint Joseph's improved to 10-11 all-time against Norwich with its fifth consecutive victory over the Cadets.
