VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. – The Saint Joseph's College women's volleyball team (1-2) suffered a pair of 3-0 setbacks during the opening day of the Marlin Invitational at Batten University on Friday. The Monks fell to Rowan University (25-16, 25-16, 25-17) before dropping their second match of the day to Millikin University (25-13, 25-13, 25-12).
ROWAN DEF. SAINT JOSEPH'S, 3-0:
The teams traded points early in the opening set and were tied at 6-6 before Rowan used a 5-0 run to take control and eventually secured a 25-16 victory. Saint Joseph's held a 10-8 edge in the second set, but the Profs responded with a 9-2 surge and pulled away for another 25-16 win. Rowan opened the third set with six unanswered points, but the Monks battled back and trimmed the deficit to 13-12. The Profs answered by winning 10 of the following 13 rallies and completed the sweep with a 25-17 triumph.
TEAM STATS:
Saint Joseph's recorded 28 kills, 24 assists, seven service aces, 45 digs, and two total blocks in the opening match. The Monks hit .057 with 22 errors on 106 attempts, while Rowan posted a .188 attack percentage with 30 kills and 12 errors on 96 swings.

MILLIKIN DEF. SAINT JOSEPH'S, 3-0:
Saint Joseph's held an early 3-2 lead in the first set before Millikin answered with five consecutive points to move ahead for good. The Monks remained within a point at 13-12 later in the frame, but the Big Blue rattled off nine unanswered points en route to a 25-13 victory. Millikin established early leads in each of the following two sets and used a 5-0 run to create separation midway through the second. The Big Blue then produced a seven-point surge during the third set and closed out the match with consecutive 25-13 and 25-12 wins.
TEAM STATS:
Millikin hit .329 with 35 kills and 10 errors on 76 attempts while holding Saint Joseph's to 20 kills and a -.012 attack percentage. The Monks added 19 assists, 24 digs, and two total blocks in the setback.
