STANDISH, Maine — Saint Joseph's College of Maine has announced the addition of Elaine Katanic to the Monks swimming coaching staff. Katanic enters her first season as an assistant coach and brings an accomplished competitive swimming background to the program.

A Windham, Maine native, Katanic was a standout swimmer at Windham High School, where she established multiple school records and placed third in the 50-yard freestyle at the Maine Class A State Championships.

Katanic continued her career at Colby-Sawyer College, competing for four seasons from 2012-16. A leading freestyle swimmer for the Chargers, she earned All-NEISDA honors in the 50, 100, and 200 freestyle and achieved ECAC qualifying standards in the 50 and 100 freestyle. During her senior season, she earned Colby-Sawyer Athlete of the Week honors and was nominated for the college's Outstanding Female Athlete of the Year award.

"Adding Elaine to our coaching staff is an important step forward for Saint Joseph's swimming," said Head Coach Fr. Steven Cartwright. "Elaine brings not only an outstanding background in the sport, but also the kind of energy, knowledge, and commitment that will make an immediate impact on our student-athletes. Having another experienced coach on deck gives our swimmers another set of eyes, another voice, and another person invested in helping them reach their potential. I'm incredibly excited to welcome Elaine to St. Joe's and to have her alongside me as we continue to build this new chapter of Monks Swimming."

Professionally, Katanic has worked in medical administration and surgical booking at Maine Eye Center since 2022. She previously spent five years as an Activities Assistant at Stroudwater Lodge Senior Living, gaining additional experience in programming, scheduling, and coordination.

Katanic earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Studio Art from Colby-Sawyer College in 2016.
