MONK CONFESSIONS

2010: One of five players to start all 40 games for the Monks…hit .346 (44-127) with 33 runs, 37 RBI, eight doubles and 11 home runs…led the Royal Blue in long balls, ranked second in RBI and slugging percentage (.669), and third in runs, hits, doubles and on-base percentage (.420)…finished the year second in both total bases (85) and slugging percentage (.669)…ranked second on the team with 10-multiple-RBI efforts and tied for second with 12 multi-hit performances…also sported an 11-game hitting streak during her season year…selected as a team captain for the third consecutive season…opened the campaign with a strong offensive effort, as she went 3-4 with a double and four RBI against Ohio-Wesleyan on March 7th…smacked a two-run homer and drove in three overall against Wartburg on March 8th…hit another two-run blast against NYU-Polytechnic on March 13th…went 2-4 with two runs, two RBI and a homer against Mount Ida on March 26th and 2-3 with two runs, two RBI and another long ball against Emmanuel the following day…was 2-4 with a run, RBI and a double against Johnson & Wales on April 3rd…connected for a solo homer against Southern Maine on April 6th…enjoyed a fine day against Pine Manor on April 10th, as she went 4-6 with four runs, four RBI, two doubles and a home run in a twinbill sweep over the Gators  that afternoon…capped the conference weekend with another outstanding effort against St. Joseph (CT) the next day…she went 4-7 with two runs, three RBI and a tater in doubleheader against the Blue Jays and earned GNAC Player of the Week the following Monday for her offensive prowess…drew four walks in the opener against Lasell on April 14th and went 2-3 with two runs, two RBI, a double and a homer in the nightcap…hit a solo bomb against Emerson on April 19th…the shot against the Lions was her ninth of the year and broke the Monks’ single-season home run mark…was 3-4 with three runs, two RBI and a homer in the GNAC Tournament on April 24th against Norwich…connected for her 11th longball of the year in a conference tourney contest against Simmons on April 24th...earned First Team All-GNAC, All-Tournament and All-Academic Team honors following the season…started all 159 of the Monks’ games at shortstop during her career…capped her four years with her name dotted throughout the SJC career records…ranks third all-time in at bats (495) and is currently tied for fourth in games played…ranked second in career home runs (15) and third in hits (170), doubles (36) and RBI (120).

2009: Started all 43 games at shortstop for Saint Joseph’s…hit .315 (40-127) with 27 runs, 9 doubles and 33 RBI…made just 4 errors in 169 chances overall and committed no miscues in 94 chances in GNAC play…notched 8 multi-hit games and knocked home 2 or more runs in 7 different games…kicked off the season with three RBI and a pair of runs against SUNY-Oswego on March 9th…was 3-4 with two runs and three RBI against College of Wooster on March 12th…knocked home three and went 2-5 against WNEC on March 14th…was 2-3 with three RBI against Pine Manor on March 28th…went 3-3 with three runs and two RBI against Mount Ida on April 17th…was 2-2 with two RBI and a home run against Albertus Magnus on April 19th…earned GNAC Player of the Week honors on March 16th…named GNAC Academic All-Conference…received the Monks’ Gold Glove Award.

2008: Started all 43 games at short for the Monks…hit .359 (51-142) with 30 runs, 9 doubles, 3 home runs and 33 RBI…led the team in home runs, finished second in RBI, tied for second in doubles, fourth in runs scored and fifth in batting average…doubled and knocked in 3 against St. Mary’s on March 4th…hit her first collegiate out-of-the-park home run, a grand slam in the 6th inning, and drove home 5 in a thrilling 13-9 win over RPI on March 8th…was 3-3 with 3 runs, 3 RBI and a double against Albertus Magnus on March 24th…went 3-3 with a triple and a run scored against Emerson on April 5th…accomplished the same feat with an RBI against JWU the following day…was 2-4 with 3 runs, 2 RBI and a double against Suffolk on April 17th…went 3-3 with 3 runs and a double against Norwich on April 20th…was 7-10 with 3 runs, 4 RBI, 3 doubles and a home run in the GNAC Tournament…earned an All-Tournament nomination for her performance in the Monks’ three tourney games…earned GNAC Player of the Week honors on March 11th…named GNAC Academic All-Conference.

2007: Started all 33 games at shortstop for the Monks…hit .354 (35-99) with 17 runs, 10 doubles and 17 RBI…ranked second on the team in batting average, RBI and runs scored…also ranked second on the squad with 10 multiple-hit games and third with 4 multi-RBI contests…her first collegiate hit was a single in the bottom of the second inning against Rutgers-Newark on March 13th at Cape Coral…went 2-3 with a run in a 6-2 victory over Skidmore on March 15th…drove home three runs and went 2-3 with a triple, her first NCAA extra-base hit, in a 12-2 win over Mount Ida on March 15th…notched her first collegiate stolen base in a loss to Ohio Wesleyan on March 17th…was 3-4 with a two-bagger and 3 RBI in a 4-2 win over Plymouth State on April 11th…notched 2 RBI and 2 doubles against Lyndon State on April 23rd.

High School: Played varsity softball, field hockey, and basketball at St. Peter-Marian High School in Worcester...was Central Mass Conference All-Star sophomore, junior, and senior year for softball...made the district softball championship junior year and was a Division 1 All-Star senior year...played four years of varsity field hockey...Central Mass Conference All-Star junior and senior year, was voted Best of 60 field hockey players in Massachusetts and Division 1 All-Star senior year. 

Personal: Elizabeth Mechelien van der Linden, born on December 3rd, 1987 in Worcester, Massachusetts...daughter of Mary and Alfons van der Linden...majoring in Nursing.
