Chris Woodside

Dr. Christopher Woodside was named head coach of the Saint Joseph’s College women’s basketball program in 2025, succeeding legendary coach Mike McDevitt. Woodside had served as an assistant coach with the Monks for five seasons, during which the program posted a 92-27 (.773) record, won two GNAC championships, and maintained a strong academic and leadership culture.

A native of Calais, Maine, Woodside brings over a decade of coaching experience at the high school and collegiate levels. His coaching career began at his alma mater, Calais High School, where he led the boys’ basketball team to a Class C state title in his first season as head coach. He later served as an assistant coach at Schreiner University (TX), helping guide the men’s team to its first conference championship. From 2017–2020, he was the varsity girls’ basketball coach at John Bapst Memorial High School, compiling a 33-27 record.

Woodside holds a B.S. in Sports and Leisure Management from Eastern Connecticut State University (2008), a Master’s in Sport Management from the University of Connecticut (2011), and a Doctorate in Education from Concordia University (2021). In addition to his coaching duties, he has served as an assistant professor in the Sports Management program at Saint Joseph’s and co-facilitator of the Monks Leadership Academy.

His leadership philosophy emphasizes culture, character, and a commitment to excellence—values that align closely with the tradition of Saint Joseph’s basketball. As head coach, Woodside is dedicated to building upon the program’s rich legacy while preparing student-athletes for success on and off the court.
