Overview:

Dr. Christopher Woodside was named the seventh head coach in the history of the Saint Joseph's College women's basketball program in May 2025, succeeding legendary coach Mike McDevitt after serving as an assistant coach with the Monks for the previous five seasons.

During his tenure as an assistant, Saint Joseph's compiled a remarkable 92-27 (.773) overall record, captured two Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Championships, earned two NCAA Division III Tournament appearances, and established itself as one of the conference's premier programs. Woodside played an integral role in the program's success both on the court and in the classroom while helping foster the culture and leadership that became hallmarks of the Monks.

Woodside enjoyed an impressive debut season as head coach in 2025-26, guiding Saint Joseph's to a 17-11 overall record and a 10-2 mark in GNAC play. The Monks earned the No. 2 seed in the conference tournament, advanced to the GNAC Championship game, and finished among the NCAA Division III national leaders in three-point shooting, ranking 12th in three-pointers made per game (8.5) and 19th in three-point attempts per game (26.4).

Known for emphasizing culture, leadership, and player development, Woodside has helped mentor numerous All-Conference, All-State, All-Region, Academic All-District, and Academic All-America student-athletes during his time at Saint Joseph's. His leadership philosophy centers on preparing student-athletes for success both on the court and beyond graduation while building upon the championship tradition established within the women's basketball program.

Previously:

Prior to joining the Saint Joseph's coaching staff, Woodside amassed more than a decade of coaching experience at both the high school and collegiate levels.

A native of Calais, Maine, Woodside began his coaching career at his alma mater, Calais High School, where he guided the boys' basketball program to the Class C State Championship in his first season as head coach. He later served as an assistant coach at Schreiner University (Texas), helping the Mountaineers capture the program's first conference championship.

Woodside returned to his home state in 2017 as the varsity girls' basketball coach at John Bapst Memorial High School, where he compiled a 33-27 record over three seasons before joining the Saint Joseph's women's basketball staff in 2020.

Personal:

Woodside earned a Bachelor of Science in Sports and Leisure Management from Eastern Connecticut State University in 2008 before completing a Master of Sport Management degree at the University of Connecticut in 2011. He later earned a Doctorate in Education from Concordia University in 2021.

In addition to his coaching responsibilities, Woodside serves as an assistant professor in the Saint Joseph's Sports Management program and is a co-facilitator of the Monks Leadership Academy, reflecting his commitment to developing student-athletes both academically and personally.
