Overview:

Jon Roberts was hired as the full-time head coach of the Saint Joseph's College women's volleyball program in July 2018 and has steadily elevated the Monks within the Great Northeast Athletic Conference.

Through seven seasons, Roberts has guided Saint Joseph's to an 88-126 (.411) overall record and a 53-40 (.570) mark in GNAC play. During his tenure, the Monks have advanced to three consecutive GNAC Semifinals, hosted the program's second-ever GNAC home playoff match, and produced several of the program's strongest seasons since 2015.

Known for player development and program growth, Roberts has worked with seven All-Conference honorees and coached a group of student-athletes who have collectively earned 76 All-Academic accolades. His teams have continued to improve within the conference while building a foundation around strong fundamentals and academic success.

2025 Season

Saint Joseph's enjoyed its strongest season under Roberts in 2025, finishing 18-13 overall and 11-2 in GNAC play. The Monks earned the No. 3 seed in the conference tournament and hosted Simmons University in the quarterfinals, marking the program's second-ever GNAC home playoff match and first since 2015.

Saint Joseph's defeated Simmons, 3-1, to advance to the GNAC Semifinals for the third consecutive season before falling to eventual conference champion Lasell University.

Senior outside hitter Victoria Briones and junior outside hitter Greta Mackintosh both earned First Team All-GNAC honors, marking the first time since 2015 that Saint Joseph's placed two players on the First Team.

2024 Season

The Monks posted a 15-17 overall record and a 10-5 mark in GNAC play in 2024, earning the No. 6 seed in the conference tournament.

Saint Joseph's continued its postseason rise with a 3-1 road victory over third-seeded Regis College in the GNAC Quarterfinals. The Monks advanced to the semifinal round before falling to second-seeded Johnson & Wales University.

Junior Victoria Briones earned Second Team All-GNAC honors for the second consecutive season.

2023 Season

Roberts guided Saint Joseph's to a 15-16 overall record in 2023, the program's highest win total since 2015. The Monks went 10-5 in GNAC play and secured the No. 6 seed in the conference tournament.

Saint Joseph's pulled off one of the tournament's top upsets, defeating third-seeded Johnson & Wales University, 3-2, on the road in the GNAC Quarterfinals. The season ended two days later in the semifinals against second-seeded Regis College.

Sophomore Victoria Briones earned Second Team All-GNAC honors, while senior Abby Jerome was named to the Third Team.

2022 Season

Saint Joseph's finished the 2022 season with a 13-18 overall record and a 7-6 mark in GNAC play, earning the No. 8 seed in the conference tournament.

The Monks' season came to a close against top-seeded Rivier University in the GNAC Quarterfinals.

Following the campaign, sophomore Maggie Sylvester earned Third Team All-GNAC honors, while freshman Victoria Briones was selected to the GNAC All-Rookie Team.

2021 Season

Saint Joseph's returned to postseason play in 2021, earning the No. 8 seed in the GNAC Tournament after posting a 9-22 overall record and a 5-8 mark in conference competition.

The Monks traveled to top-seeded Rivier University for the quarterfinal round, where their season ended against the eventual conference contender.

2019 Season

Saint Joseph's posted an 8-22 overall record and a 5-7 mark in GNAC play in 2019, earning the No. 7 seed in the conference tournament.

The Monks traveled to second-seeded Simmons University in the first round of the GNAC Tournament before falling to the Sharks.

Several individuals produced strong statistical seasons, led by junior Erin Olson with 196 kills. Freshman Hanna Holden recorded 610 assists, the eighth-highest single-season total in program history, while senior Kelsey Bickford tallied a team-high 43 aces and junior Madison Provencher added 430 digs, the seventh-most in a season in team history.

2018 Season

In his first season leading the program, Roberts guided Saint Joseph's to a 10-18 overall record and a 5-7 GNAC mark, earning the No. 8 seed in the conference tournament.

The Monks' season ended in the GNAC Quarterfinals against Johnson & Wales University, which was ranked second nationally at the time.

Senior libero Jennelle Thompson earned All-Conference honors for the fourth consecutive season after leading the GNAC in digs and digs per set for the fourth straight year.

Previously:

Roberts came to Saint Joseph's after serving as the head coach of the Scarborough High School girls volleyball program for eight years. During his tenure, he led the Red Storm to two Class A Maine State Championships, five State Championship appearances, and eight postseason berths.

He was named Maine Volleyball Coaches Association Class A Coach of the Year twice and earned Portland Press Herald High School Volleyball Coach of the Year honors twice.

Roberts has also been heavily involved in Maine club volleyball, coaching with Maine Juniors Volleyball Club for eight years and serving as the club's Volleyball Technical Director beginning in 2015.

Personal:

A native of Storrs, Connecticut, Roberts began his coaching career in 2003 as an assistant at Coventry High School, where he helped the program capture six State Championships.

Roberts earned a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology from the University of Connecticut in 1996 and played club volleyball at UConn for two years, helping the team advance to the collegiate club national tournament in 1996.
