Overview:

Roberts was hired as the Monks’ full-time head women’s volleyball coach in July of 2018. In his six season as head coach, Roberts has guided the Monks to a 70-113 (.383) overall record with a 42-38 (.525) record in conference play. During his tenure, Roberts has played a pivotal role in the development of his athletes, guiding seven players to All-Conference recognition and 60 to All-Academic honors.

Recently:

2024: The Monks went 15-17 overall with a 10-5 record in conference play in the 2024 season to claim the #6 seed in the GNAC Tournament. Roberts led the Monks to an upset win on the road, defeating the #3 seed Regis College 3-1 in the GNAC Quaterfinals. In the GNAC Semifinals, the Monks fell short in a 3-1 loss to the #2 seed Johnson & Wales University. Following the season, junior Victoria Briones (El Paso, Texas) earned a spot on the All-Conference Second Team for the second year in a row.

Prior Seasons:

2023: Coach Roberts led the Monks to a 15-16 record, the most wins in a season since 2015, with a record of 10-5 in GNAC play to secure the #6 seed in the GNAC Tournament. The Monks pulled off the upset on the road in the GNAC Quaterfinals, with a thrilling 3-2 win over the #3 seed Johnson & Wales Unversity. The season ended two days later in the GNAC Semifinals with a 3-0 loss to the #2 seed Regis College College. After the season, sophomore Victoria Briones (El Paso, Texas) earned a spot on the All-Conference Second Team while senior Abby Jerome (Barrington, N.H.) was named on the Third Team.

In 2022, Saint Joseph's posted a 13-18 record overall with a 7-6 tally in GNAC play en route to earning the #8 seed in the conference tournament. The Monks' campaign ended with a 3-0 loss at the hands of top-seeded Rivier University on November 1st.

Following the completion of the 2022 campaign a pair of Monks claimed GNAC postseason accolades, as sophomore Maggie Sylvester (Barrington, N.H.) earned Third Team All-Conference honors and freshman Victoria Briones (El Paso, Texas) was listed on the GNAC All-Rookie Team.

During the 2021 season. Saint Joseph’s earned the #8 seed in the GNAC Tournament after recording a 9-22 overall record, including a 5-8 mark in conference play. The Monks fell to top-seeded Rivier, 3-0, in a quarterfinal match played in Nashua on November 2nd.

In 2019, Saint Joseph’s posted an 8-22 overall record with a 5-7 tally in conference play. As the #7 seed in the GNAC tourney the Monks traveled to #2 Simmons University in the first round and suffered a 3-0 (25-9, 25-17, 25-22) setback at the hands of the Sharks.

Five different players logged at least 100 kills during the campaign with junior Erin Olson (Stoughton, Mass.) leading the way with 196. Freshman Hanna Holden (Stoughton, Mass.) delivered 610 assists, the eighth highest total in team history, senior Kelsey Bickford (Somersworth, N.H.) posted a team-high 43 aces, and junior Madison Provencher (Rochester, N.H.) added 430 digs, the seventh most in a season in program history.

In his first season at the helm (2018), the Monks went 10-18 overall with a 5-7 mark in GNAC play en route to earning the #8 seed in the conference tournament. The 2018 season ended with a 3-0 loss to Johnson & Wales University, ranked second in the country at the time, in a GNAC quarterfinal on Tuesday, October 30th.

Following the season senior libero Jennelle Thompson (Rochester, N.H.) earned All-Conference honors for the fourth-consecutive season after leading the GNAC in digs (527) and digs per set (5.61) for the fourth time in as many years.

Previously:

Roberts comes to Saint Joseph's after serving as the head coach of the Scarborough High School girls volleyball program for the last eight years. Since 2010, Roberts has also been heavily involved in the Maine club volleyball scene, as he has been a coach for the Maine Juniors Volleyball Club for eight years and took on the role of Volleyball Technical Director for the club in 2015.

During his time at Scarborough High School, Roberts led the Red Storm to a pair of Class A Maine State Championships, five State Championship appearances, and trips to the postseason on eight occasions in as many years. He was recognized as the Maine Volleyball Coaches Association Class A Coach of the Year twice and garnered a pair of Portland Press Herald High School Volleyball Coach of the Year honors.

Roberts, who grew up in Storrs, Connecticut, began his coaching career in 2003 as an assistant at Coventry High School, where he helped lead the team to six State Championships.

Coach Roberts earned his Bachelor of Arts in Sociology from University of Connecticut in 1996 and played club volleyball at UConn for two years. He was a member of the team that advanced to the collegiate club national tournament in 1996.
