FORT KENT, ME - The SJC squad (4-8-1) dropped a tough 2-1
decision at Maine Presque Isle on Saturday, but rebounded to earn a
2-1 victory at Fort Kent on Sunday.
On Saturday, UMPI jumped out to a 1-0 lead as Robert Allan scored
at 13:35. Sophomore Scott Desrosiers (Pascoag, RI)
evened things up at 37:03 as he netted a pass from sophomore
James Scotland (Harrisville, RI). Sebastian Itman
scored the final goal of the game at 40:17 off a cross. St. Joe's
out shot UMPI 4-2 in the second half, but was unable to
convert.
On Sunday the Monks endured poor weather conditions and benefitted
from some end-of-the-match heroics by sophomore David
Hakes (Whitefield, NH). Ft. Kent struck first as Rob
Rochester scored off a pass from Andrew Martin. Freshman
Kevin Melega (Easthampton, MA) assisted on a goal
by senior Brice Greenleaf (Bar Harbor) to even the
match in the 40th minute.
After almost 44 scoreless minutes in the second half, Hakes scored
the game winner off a pass from Scotland. Senior keeper
David Rosquete (Auburn, ME) had 16 saves in the
win.
The Monks play at Newbury College (MA) on 10/22 at 1:00 PM.
