STANDISH, MAINE - The Saint Joseph's College softball team
dropped both games of a doubleheader to Bates College on Wednesday.
The Bobcats won the first contest, 3-0, and the second 13-0. Bates
finishes the 2005 campaign with a 12-10 record. The Lady Monks end
the season with a 12-25 record.
Game 1
The top of the line-up for Bates fueled the offense in game one.
Hitters 1-4, accounted for seven hits, three runs scored and one
RBI. The three runs were more than enough support for Bates
pitcher, Sarah Klenakis, (Springfield, MA), who pitched a complete
game shutout for the win giving up only three hits, two walks and
recording four strikeouts.
Senior Darcy Lee (Windham, ME) had two hits for Saint Joe's and
senior Kahler Dowling (Augusta, ME) pitched a complete game in the
loss giving up eight hits, 0 walks and recording six strikeouts.
Game 2
The Bobcats recorded 16 hits and scored 13 runs to win game two
in six innings (10-run rule). Kyla Decato (Paris, ME) led Bates at
the plate, going 4-4 with three RBI's and two runs scored.
In addition to Decato, the Bobcats had five other players with
two hits each to help the offense.
Sarah Klenakis, (Springfield, MA), earned her second shutout win
of the day for the Bobcats giving up six hits, no walks and
recording two strikeouts.
Senior Kahler Dowling (August, ME) and sophomore Sarah Martin
(Athol, MA) each recorded two hits for the Lady Monks. Senior
Allyson Ferguson (Sabattus, ME) pitched 5 1/3 innings in the loss
giving up 15 hits, 13 runs, one walk and recording five strikeouts.
