Boston, MA - David Rosquete
(Auburn, ME) scored twice and senior Harrison Deah
(Monrovia, Liberia) picked up a pair of assists for St. Joe's in a
5-4 loss at UMass Boston.
UMass struck first as junior Guilherme Goncalves
(Campo Grande, Brazil) found sophomore John DiPietro (Haverhill,
MA) at 5:21. St. Joe's knotted the score when Rosquete took a
header from Deah and scored in the 29th minute.
The Beacons scored two more goals to take a 3-1
lead at half-time and added goals at 54:03 and 61:58 to go up 5-1.
UMass appeared to have the match in hand, but Rosquete redirected a
header from freshman Paul Roy (Saint David, ME) to
the left corner of the net at 73:01 to cut the deficit to 5-2.
Freshman Eamonn Harrigan (Caribou,
ME) scored less than seven minutes later when he collected a loose
ball off the foot of junior Dan Rockwell
(Guilford, ME) and scored at 80:17 to make it 5-3. Freshman
Doug MacCallum (Hingham, MA) kept hope alive when
he took a cross in the air from junior Scott
Desrosiers (Pascoag, RI) and scored on a bicycle kick into
the left side of the net with just 1:02 left to play, but this
would be as close as the Monks would come.
Freshman Greg Cavanaugh
(Haverhill, MA) saw the first 73:01 in net for the Monks, turning
away three shots while freshman Cory Smith
(Ellsworth, ME) played the final 16:59, stopping both shots he
faced.
St. Joe's travels to Colby on Thursday, October 12,
for a 3:30 PM match.
