WINTHROP, Mass. — The Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) has announced its weekly awards, naming Saint Joseph's College of Maine freshman Damir Brkic (South Portland, Maine) the GNAC Men's Soccer Rookie of the Week for the second time this season.
Brkic played a role in three goals during the Monks' 5-0 victory over Mitchell College on Saturday. The freshman opened the scoring in the 28th minute, converting a penalty kick to give Saint Joseph's a 1-0 lead. He then assisted on a pair of second-half goals by Cole Bishop (Gorham, Maine), setting up tallies in the 47th and 54th minutes to extend the Monks' advantage to 3-0.
Brkic ranks second on the team in goals (seven), assists (four), and points (18). Among GNAC players, he ranks fourth in both goals and points.
With his second selection, Brkic becomes the first Saint Joseph's men's soccer player to earn GNAC Rookie of the Week honors twice in a single season.
The Monks now await their opponent for the GNAC Tournament quarterfinals, scheduled for Saturday, October 31.
