WINTHROP, Mass. – The Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) announced its weekly awards, naming Saint Joseph's College junior Nick Marion (Windham, Maine) the GNAC Men's Soccer Player of the Week for the second consecutive week.
Saint Joseph's faced conference opponent Norwich University on Wednesday, as Marion contributed to all three goals in the Monks' 3-2 victory over the Cadets. Marion opened the scoring in the 24th minute, finding the back of the net off a pass from Mattheus Silva (Acton, Mass.). Before halftime, he struck again, this time off an assist from Brady Cormier (Waterboro, Maine). After Norwich cut the deficit to 2-1, Marion set up Godin Ndayishimiye (Bujumbura, Burundi) for the eventual game-winning goal in the 59th minute.
Marion leads the Monks in both goals (nine) and assists (six) and ranks among the nation's top point scorers. With 24 points, he is tied for 20th nationally. He becomes the first Saint Joseph's player to earn consecutive GNAC Men's Soccer Player of the Week honors since Brett Matos (Mahopac, N.Y.) accomplished the feat on October 2 and October 9, 2017.
The Monks return to action Wednesday, October 21, traveling to face Colby-Sawyer College at 3:00 PM.
