The SJC men's soccer team picked up two wins on the
road this weekend and improves to 7-7 on the season.
SJC 3, Green Mountain 2 (in overtime)
Poultney, VT - On Saturday the Monks defeated Green
Mountain College 3-2 in overtime. Sophomore Kevin
Melega (Easthampton, MA) scored two goals, including the
game winner at 96:56.
St. Joe's gave up two goals to Garrick Johnson 52 seconds in and
again at 68:57 before Melega put the Monks on the board at 75:04.
The match was tied by an own goal by Green Mountain with less than
two minutes to play in regulation. Melega collected a loose ball
and finished it near the post to give St. Joe's the win.
Freshman goal keeper Cory Smith (Ellsworth, ME)
had seven saves for the Monks.
SJC 5, Lyndon State 0
Lyndonville, VT - Lyndon State proved no match for
St. Joe's as the Monks cruised to a 5-0 win on Sunday. Senior
David Hakes (Whitefield, NH) had a hand in three
SJC goals, scoring twice and assisting on a third.
Hakes put the Monks up 2-0 with goals at 7:37 and 10:39. Senior
Harrison Deah (Monrovia, Liberia) extended the
lead with a goal in the 79th minute. St. Joe's went up 4-0 when a
goalie error caused an own goal by Lyndon State at 79:25.
Hakes assisted on a goal by freshman Paul Roy
(St. David, ME) at 88:21 to close out the scoring.
Smith recorded six saves for St. Joe's.
The team travels to New England College (NH) on Wednesday,
October 18, for a 3:30 PM match.
