NEW LONDON, CT - In the second semi-final game of
the afternoon for the AD3I New England Men's Soccer Regional
Tournament, #2 seeded University of Maine at Presque Isle (UMPI)
lost in double overtime (1-0) to #3 seeded Saint Joseph's College
of Maine.
Saint Joseph's dominated the first half of play
with 6 shots on goal to UMPI's 0. The Monks netted the first goal
of the game at 28:06 on a feed from Lane Hubacz
(So., Mapleville, RI) to David Hakes (Sr.,
Whitefield, NH). Hakes hit the right corner net from 15 yards out.
The second half saw inspired play by both sides as
each squad fired 15 shots on goal. Saint Joe's applied constant
pressure on UMPI"s net amassing 7 corner kicks. However, UMPI"s
persistence paid off on a Matt Petrie (Jr., Old Town, ME) goal from
Trever Parent (Sr., Peru, ME) at the 71:57 mark. The game ended
knotted at one at the end of regulation.
After 3 rushes on net, the Monks connected on a
left footed cross from Kevin Melega (So.,
Easthampton, MA) through traffic to teammate David
Rosquete (Gr, Auburn, ME) who one timed the ball to the
right side of the net at 101:40 of double over time to capture the
win.
Owl goalkeeper Scott Clency (So., Saskatchewan,
Canada) finished the afternoon game with 7 saves. Monk net minder
