Monks Topple Chargers on Senior Day, 6-0

Box Score

STANDISH, ME – Saint Joseph's (9-5, 5-4 NAC) topped Colby-Sawyer College (5-8, 1-7 NAC), 6-0, in North Atlantic Conference (NAC) field hockey action on Sunday afternoon. Junior Carley Denis (Lewiston, Maine) scored a pair of goals in the one-sided triumph.

Prior to the start of the game, the Saint Joseph's field hockey program took a few moments to honor the team's four seniors - Elizabeth Andersen (Cumberland, Maine), Melanie Allen (Jackson, N.H.), Brittany Locke (Waterville, Maine) and Taylor Allison (Pawtucket, R.I.) – for their contributions to the Monks' recent success. This quartet has helped Saint Joseph's post a 49-22 (.690) overall record and a 27-5 (.844) mark in NAC play with a pair of conference regular-season crowns over the last four seasons.

Theresa Hendrix (Scarborough, Maine/Cheverus) kicked off the game-scoring at the 14:58 mark when the junior midfielder collected a rebound off a Denis shot and slammed the ball into the back of the cage. Rachelle Messuri (Atkinson, N.H.) netted her seventh goal of the year five minutes later and freshman Allyson Allard (Parsonsfield, Maine) made it a 3-0 game with a marker off an Allen feed exactly 30 minutes past the opening whistle.

Denis would extend the Monks' cushion to four when she netted her first of two goals with 1:18 remaining in the first half.

Freshman Amanda Celata (Dedham, Mass.) made it a 5-0 game when she scored off a Locke feed 14 minutes into the second stanza and the rookie would assist on Denis' second marker of the day, which was scored nearly three minutes later.

Saint Joseph's held wide advantages in shots (19-1), shots on goal (16-1) and penalty corners (14-4) in the victory. Allison started in net and did not face a shot in 35 minutes of play, while freshman keeper Emily Gallant (Rumford, Maine) recorded one save in the second half.

Colby-Sawyer freshman netminder Jodi Dumayne (Claremont, N.H.) made 10 saves in a losing effort.

With the win, Saint Joseph's improves to 2-0 in the history of the series with Colby-Sawyer College. The Monks defeated the Chargers by a 4-0 score in the first meeting between the newly-minted conference-rivals on October 23rd, 2011.

Both teams have one regular-season game remaining, as St. Joe's plays at Plymouth State on Wednesday at 3:00 PM and Colby-Sawyer hosts NAC-rival Lasell College on Tuesday at 3:30 PM.
