Four-Goal Fourth lifts Monks Past Eagles

Box Score

NASHUA, NH – The Daniel Webster men's lacrosse team stayed close through three quarters but Saint Joseph's College potted four fourth-quarter scores to pull away for a 9-3 victory in the Eagles' home finale Saturday as part of a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) matchup at Eagle Field.

The upset-minded Eagles (1-9, 0-6 GNAC) held the Monks (8-7, 7-1 GNAC) scoreless in the opening period and a Sean Hamilton (Brookline, N.H.) score gave them a 1-0 lead after one. SJC answered with four second quarter strikes including two from Jake O'Brien (Andover, Mass.) to seemingly take control with a 4-1 lead at the half.

A Jordan Grant (Windsor, Maine) score made it 5-1 for the Monks early in the third but DWC struck twice in the final minute with unassisted scores from Anthony Cotoni (Groton, Mass.) with 50 seconds remaining and Bobby Loranger (Billerica, Mass.) with five seconds to go for a sudden 5-3 game after three.

But SJC pulled away for good as Andrew Sullivan (Rochester, N.H.) notched back-to-back scores with 9:28 and 6:54 remaining and Austin Watts (Westbrook, Maine) added his second of the day with 4:15 left for an 8-3 lead.

Tommy Driscoll (South Boston, Mass.) finished with 14 saves for DWC, while Ethan Rettew (Ephrata, Penn.) made eight stops for the Monks.

Both teams take on conference opponents on Tuesday when the Monks host Mount Ida College at 4:00 PM and Daniel Webster travels to Norwich University to face the Cadets in a 4:00 PM start.
