Monks Handle AMCATS, 17-1

Box Score

PORTLAND, Maine – Saint Joseph's College (1-2, 1-0 GNAC) toppled Anna Maria College (0-4, 0-2 GNAC), 17-1, in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) men's lacrosse contest at Deering Memorial Stadium on Saturday afternoon. Freshman Brendan Barrett (East Sandwich, Mass.) tallied two goals and five assists in the Monks' GNAC and home opener.

Saint Joseph's opened the contest with seven straight goals, including a pair from junior Jake O'Brien (Andover, Mass.) and headed into intermission with a commanding 10-1 lead. The Monks closed out the game with seven goals in the third and fourth quarters combined en route to the convincing victory.

In all, 11 different SJC players scored at least once in the conference win with senior Brandon Boutin (Hackettstown, N.J.) netting a game-high three goals while O'Brien, senior Brad Loomis (Saunderstown, R.I.) and freshman Luigi Grimaldi (Portland, Maine) potted a pair of goals apiece on the afternoon.

Senior Dalton Eldridge (South Gardiner, Maine), sophomore Mark LaPierre (Wayland, Mass.) and freshmen Tom Lisiecki (South Boston, Mass.), Matt Donnell (Watertown, Mass.), Dom Dirupo (Wilmington, Mass.) and Joe O'Reilly (Suffern, N.Y.) all scored in the lopsided triumph. For O'Reilly, the score was the first of his collegiate career.

Senior Nathan Batallas (Templeton, Mass.) scored the AMCATS' lone goal at the 11-minute mark of the second quarter.

With the win, Saint Joseph's improves to 4-0 all-time versus Anna Maria College, a team the Monks defeated by a 5-4 score in five overtimes last spring. Prior to today's contest, the largest margin of victory took place in a 13-11 SJC win on March 24th, 2012.

Saint Joseph's returns to action Monday afternoon when the team hosts non-conference foe University of Maine-Farmington in a 4:00 PM start at Deering Memorial Stadium.
