CASTINE, Maine – Three first-half goals propelled Saint Joseph's College (13-0-1) past Maine Maritime Academy (2-8-3), 3-0, in a non-conference men's soccer game on Sunday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

Playing on consecutive days for the first time this fall, the Monks seemed a bit sluggish to start but found their groove with three tallies in a matter of eight minutes in the middle of the first half.

Sophomore Mitchell Duncan (Sanford, Maine) scored the eventual game-winner, his second clincher of the year, off a Trevor Lopes (Cumberland, R.I.) pass at the 23:56 mark. Two minutes later, junior Jesse Ramirez (Dumont, N.J.) doubled the SJC cushion with his fifth goal of the season, off a Noah Elmore (Berlin, Vt.) feed, and Elmore capped the game scoring with his third of the year off a Quinn Hewitt (Cape Elizabeth, Maine) pass in the 32nd minute.

THE KEEPERS:

Saint Joseph's junior Blake Mullen (Manchester, Conn.) logged 80:55 minutes of shutout play while freshman David Walbridge (Hampden, Mass.) registered 9:05 minutes of scoreless time in the victory. Neither netminder faced a shot.

Maine Maritime's Joshua Reeks (Bedford, N.H.) tallied 12 saves in net in the first half while Andrew Coleman (Saco, Maine) recorded four stops in the second half.

TEAM STATS:

Saint Joseph's posted sizeable advantages in shots (22-2), shots on goal (15-0), and corner kicks (5-2) in the triumph.

HISTORICALLY SPEAKING:

With the victory, Saint Joseph's improves to 11-7-3 all-time versus Maine Maritime Academy, a team the Monks had not played since 2008 prior to today's matchup. The Monks' last win over the Mariners, a 2-1 triumph, took place at Westerlea Way Field in Standish on September 19th, 2006.

NEXT!

Saint Joseph's will host University of Southern Maine Wednesday in a non-conference contest slated to start at 7:00 PM.
