Saint Joseph's Soars Past Albertus Magnus, 15-2

PORTLAND, Maine – Saint Joseph's College (11-3, 7-1 GNAC) toppled Albertus Magnus College (4-9, 1-8 GNAC), 15-2, in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) women's lacrosse contest at Fitzpatrick Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

With the score tied 1-1 seven minutes into the game, the Monks rattled off 13 unanswered goals en route to securing a 14-1 cushion with 17:37 left in the second half. Albertus sophomore Aida Sarr (Bronx, N.Y.) and Saint Joseph's freshman Micary Verville (Portland, Maine/Deering) traded goals in the closing 10 minutes to account for the 15-2 final.

SENIOR MOMENT:

Prior to the start of the contest, the Monks held a brief ceremony to honor the program's two seniors: Jackie Wilson (Tiverton, R.I.) and Meghan Fullarton (Windham, Maine). Family members for both seniors collected at midfield with the parents accepting flowers and the players receiving a nice round of applause for their contributions during their four years in the program.

THE KEEPERS:

Saint Joseph's freshman Kaylin Mansir (West Gardiner, Maine) stopped eight of the 10 shots she faced to improve to 11-3 on the season while Albertus Magnus sophomore Lexie Fenn (Oakville, Conn.) registered 17 saves and four ground balls in a losing effort.

LEADERS – SAINT JOSEPH'S:

  • Junior Elyse Caiazzo (Scarborough, Maine/Cheverus) tallied four goals, two assists, four ground balls, two draw controls, and a caused turnover
  • Wilson netted three goals with an assist, six ground balls, seven draw controls, and a pair of caused turnovers
  • Sophomore Kayla Kelly (York, Maine) scored two goals with an assist, three ground balls, and two caused turnovers
  • Freshman Madison Beaulieu (West Gardiner, Maine) scored twice and was credited with an assist
  • Sophomore Samantha Medlin (Kingston, Mass.) tallied two goals with three ground balls
  • Verville scored and added three ground balls, three draw controls, and a pair of caused turnovers
  • Junior Brianne Maloney (South Portland, Maine) chipped in with four caused turnovers

LEADERS – ALBERTUS MAGNUS:

  • Freshman Courtney Cacace (Brookfield, Conn.) scored a goal with two ground balls
  • Freshman Kaitlin D'Agostino (Hamden, Conn.) registered two ground balls and four draw controls
  • Freshman Korina Zelaya (Trumbull, Conn.) picked up four ground balls

HISTORICALLY SPEAKING:

With the victory, Saint Joseph's is now 4-0 in the history of the series with Albertus Magnus College. The Monks have outscored the Falcons by a collective 82-6 margin in the four-game set.

NEXT!

Saint Joseph's returns to action tomorrow with a make-up game versus University of Saint Joseph at Deering Memorial Stadium. The GNAC contest, which was originally to be played on April 1st, begins at 1:00 PM.
