Monks Sweep AMCATS, 13-0 & 8-0

­­­PAXTON, Mass. – Saint Joseph's College (9-13, 5-5 GNAC) won a pair of Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) softball games versus Anna Maria College (2-24, 0-14 GNAC). The Monks opened with a 13-0 triumph and completed the sweep with an 8-0 victory.

GAME ONE – Saint Joseph's 13, Anna Maria 0 (5 inn.):

The Monks plated four runs off three hits in the second, as junior Katie Chadbourne (Jaffrey, N.H.) and sophomore Libby Pomerleau (Limerick, Maine) both roped RBI doubles to help stake their team to an early advantage.

St. Joe's tacked on a run in the fourth, when junior Danielle Pinkham (Damariscotta, Maine) scored on a passed ball, and put the game well out of reach with eight runs off seven hits and a pair of Anna Maria errors in the top of the eighth. Sophomore Maizee Lee (Saco, Maine) launched a two-run homer while Meghan Elliott (Mendon, Mass.), Melodie Bailey (Lebanon, Maine), Katherine Collette (Rumford, Maine), and Madisyn Charest (Sidney, Maine) posted RBI singles during the eight-run eighth.

IN THE CIRCLE:

  • SJC sophomore Caitlin King (Old Town, Maine) picked up the victory after tossing four one-hit innings with four strikeouts
  • Sophomore Kate Whitney (Jonesboro, Maine) struck out one in a perfect inning of relief
  • Anna Maria starter Victoria Falco allowed just three earned runs (13 runs total) on 11 hits and two walks over five innings

OFF THE BAT:

  • Lee was 2-3 with two runs, a double, a homer, and two RBI
  • Elliott went 2-4 with two runs and an RBI

GAME TWO – Saint Joseph's 8, Anna Maria 0 (6 inn.):

Saint Joseph's grabbed a 1-0 lead in the top of the first, when Pomerleau led off with a double and scored two batters later when Bailey lofted a sac fly to center field.

The Monks assumed a 3-0 lead in the third, when Bailey delivered Pomerleau with a single and Elliott, who reached on a fielder's choice, scored on a wild pitch.

Sophomore third baseman Kaylee Burns (Saco, Maine) lifted her team to a 5-0 lead with two out in the top of the fifth, when she belted her first career home run – a two-run blast – to left field.

St. Joe's proceeded to achieve mercy-rule status with three runs off four hits and an error in the sixth, when Pomerleau notched an RBI single and later scored on an Elliott double.

IN THE CIRCLE:

  • Junior starter Kristal Smith (Pittston, Maine) earned the victory after allowing one hit and two walks while fanning five in five innings
  • King worked one inning of relief, allowing two hits and striking out a pair
  • Anna Maria starter Amanda Lemire yielded eight earned runs on 10 hits and two walks over six innings

OFF THE BAT:

  • Pomerleau went 3-4 with three runs, a double, and an RBI
  • Elliott was 2-3 with two runs, a double, a stolen base, and an RBI
  • Charest added two hits, a run scored, and a steal in three at-bats
  • AMCAT shortstop Sabrina Carreira was 2-3 with a pair of singles

HISTORICALLY SPEAKING:

Saint Joseph's improves to 14-1 all-time versus Anna Maria College with the sweep and has now defeated the AMCATS in 14-consecutive meetings dating back to the 2012 campaign.

Saint Joseph's will host Albertus Magnus College tomorrow in a GNAC doubleheader slated to begin at 1:00 PM.
