Box Score

STANDISH, Maine - #10/16 Saint Joseph's College (8-0-0, 4-0-0 GNAC) toppled Suffolk University (2-5-0, 2-2-0 GNAC), 5-0, in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) men's soccer action at the SJC Athletics Complex on Wednesday evening.

SUMMARY

Senior Jesse Ramirez (Dumont, N.J.) scored a pair of goals and junior Noah Robinson (Wappingers Falls, N.Y.) notched a goal and an assist to help the Monks extend their undefeated streak to 29 games.

Ramirez kicked off the game scoring in the 19th minute with a strike off a Robinson feed and freshman Jason Umbehr (Wallingford, Conn.) made it a 2-0 game when he potted his second goal of the season off a Rory Twomey (South Windsor, Conn.) pass with 23 seconds before the break.

St. Joe's, ranked 10th and 16th in this week's D3soccer.com and United Soccer Coaches NCAA DIII national polls, respectively, continued to control play in the second stanza and tacked on three goals as a result, as senior Brett Mattos (Mahopac, N.Y.) scored in the 49th minute, Ramirez in the 61st, and Robinson in the 75th.

THE KEEPERS

Suffolk freshman Tom Bennett (Minnetonka, Minn.) steered away 11 of the 16 shots he faced in 85:06 minutes and took the loss while senior David Haines (New York, N.Y.) made one stop in 4:54 minutes of mop-up duty.

TEAM STATS

Saint Joseph's held lopsided advantages in shots (31-2), shots on goal (21-0), and corner kicks (7-1) in the victory.

NOTEWORTHY

  • The conference triumph stretches the team's GNAC unbeaten streak to 24 games, as the Monks' last regular season loss at the hands of a GNAC opponent took place on October 21st, 2015 when Lasell blanked Saint Joseph's, 2-0, in Newton, Mass.

HISTORICALLY SPEAKING

With the victory, Saint Joseph's improves to 10-4-1 all-time versus Suffolk University. Including a 1-0 victory the last time they met – a GNAC Tournament quarterfinal on October 29th, 2017 – the Monks have now defeated the Rams in six-consecutive meetings.

NEXT!

Both teams resume play on Saturday when Saint Joseph's hosts GNAC-rival Regis College at 5:00 PM and Suffolk takes on University of Saint Joseph at home in a 12:00 PM kick-off.
