Dexter Breaks GNAC Points Record in Win Over Falcons

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Saint Joseph's College (16-0, 12-0 GNAC) defeated Albertus Magnus College (1-12, 0-11 GNAC), 15-3, in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) women's lacrosse action on Saturday afternoon.

BROKEN RECORDS:

With an assist on a Bridget Collins (Milford, Conn.) goal at the 10:14 mark of the second quarter, grad student Lydia Dexter (Oakland, Maine) broke the GNAC single-season points record, which was formerly held by Lasell University's Britney Wuorio who scored 130 points during the 2013 campaign. Dexter entered today's contest with 127 points and – with two goals and four assists in the triumph – has now tallied 133 points (64 goals, 69 assists) in just 16 games this season.

With her first assist of the game – on a Cailyn Wesley (Peabody, Mass.) tally 3:13 into play – Dexter broke the Monks' career assists record, which was previously held by Mary Leasure '16 who notched 105 helpers in 76 games. Dexter started the day tied with Leasure and, with four assists this afternoon, now has 109 dimes in 40 games.

TEAM STATS:

The Monks held the lead in shots (41-15), shots on goal (34-10), ground balls (23-15), draw controls (15-5) and caused turnovers (18-11) in the victory.

THE KEEPERS:

SJC freshman starter Morgan Wright (Chelmsford, Mass.) made two saves in 23:07 minutes while first-year Mackenzie Baston (Gray, Maine) turned away two shots in 15:09 between the pipes and rookie Jenna Shutt (Holliston, Mass.) added three stops in 21:44 minutes of relief duty.

Albertus Magnus netminder Chloe Oliver made 19 saves in the losing effort.

  • Dexter scored two goals with four assists
  • Collins netted four goals on six shots
  • Wesley added three goals, two ground balls, and a pair of caused turnovers
  • Sophomore Carson Battaglia (Gorham, Maine) contributed with two goals, 10 draw controls, and two ground balls
  • Sophomore Teegan Gilreath (Lowell, Mass.) scored twice
  • Sophomore Megan Mourmouras (Biddeford, Maine) added an assist, three ground balls, and three caused turnovers

LEADERS – ALBERTUS MAGNUS:

  • Katherine Raposo, Alexandra Barrett, and Keegan Riccio produced a goal and an assist apiece

With the win, Saint Joseph's improves to 7-0 in the history of the series with Albertus Magnus College.
