PAXTON, Mass. – Saint Joseph's College (4-2, 2-0 GNAC) cruised past Anna Maria College (1-4, 0-2 GNAC), 19-4, in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) women's lacrosse action on Saturday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

The Monks were in the driver's seat from the start as sophomore Shauna Clark (Oakland, Maine) bookended a 12-0 run, scoring the visitors' first tally off a Lydia Dexter (Oakland, Maine) assist just 51 seconds into play and finishing the surge with a strike off a Hannah Flaherty (Waltham, Mass.) feed to make it a 12-0 game with 6:25 left in the second quarter.

Leading 12-1 at the break, juniors Teegan Gilreath (Lowell, Mass.) and Carson Battaglia (Gorham, Maine) kicked off the third-quarter scoring at the 14:00 and 11:54 marks, respectively, to extend the SJC advantage to 13 (14-1).

After a pair of Anna Maria tallies made it a 14-3 contest with 7:01 left in the third period, the Monks rattled off five unanswered markers, as Battaglia, Svea Olson (Fryeburg, Maine), Heather Rohr (Merrimack, N.H.), Sophia Burton Westtown, N.Y.), and Lydia Hill (Windham, Maine) all hit pay dirt over the next 16 minutes.

TEAM STATS:

St. Joe's held the lead in shots (26-5), shots on goal (24-4), and draw controls (19-7) in the victory. Dean held a slight edge in ground balls (21-18) while both teams notched nine caused turnovers in the conference matchup.

THE KEEPERS:

Fort the Monks, freshman keeper Alexis Eldridge (Effingham, N.H.) made three safes in 45 minutes while sophomore Morgan Wright (Chelmsford, Mass.) faced one shot in 15 minutes of relief duty.

Anna Maria goalie Ashley Sheehan made five saves in a complete-game performance.

LEADERS – SAINT JOSEPH'S:

  • Dexter tallied three goals, four assists, six draw controls, and a pair of ground balls
  • Clark scored four goals on five shots with two ground balls
  • Battaglia added four goals with an assist, eight draw controls, and two caused turnovers
  • Sophomore Brianna Paul (Brattleboro, Vt.) was credited with four assists
  • Gilreath chipped in with two goals and an assist

LEADERS – ANNA MARIA:

  • Olivia Stump produced a goal and an assist with seven ground balls and five caused turnovers
  • Makayla Gleba, Raegan Hachey, and Alice Yokabaskas tacked on a goal apiece

With the victory, Saint Joseph's improves to 6-0 in the history of the series with Anna Maria College.
