Box Score STANDISH, Maine – Freshman Tiger Hopkins (Leeds, Maine) tallied 10 points with two goals and eight assists to help Saint Joseph's College (8-7, 6-2 GNAC) defeat Anna Maria College (2-13, 1-7 GNAC), 20-8, in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) men's lacrosse contest at the SJC Athletics Complex on Tuesday evening.
FOR THE RECORD:
With an assist on a Scott Lynch (Gray, Maine) goal with 1:27 left in the third quarter, Hopkins notched his 77th point of the 2023 campaign to break the Monks' single season points record, which was formerly held by Spencer Hunt, who scored 76 in 2010. Hopkins has netted 36 goals with 41 assists in 15 games this spring while Hunt scored 42 goals with 34 assists across 17 contests in 2010.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
The Monks all but clinched the victory by opening the conference contest with eight unanswered goals, including four straight from senior Max Lacy (Salisbury, N.H.), to build an insurmountable lead with 6:46 left in the second stanza.
Leading 9-2 at the break, St. Joe's kicked off the third period with four straight tallies, including consecutive strikes from sophomore Tyler Moscato (West Haven, Conn.), to earn a 13-2 cushion with 4:39 left in the frame. The AMCATS scored four of the following seven goals, but the effort proved to be too little, too late.
TEAM STATS:
Saint Joseph's held the lead in shots (64-33), shots on goal (38-20), and caused turnovers (21-5) while Anna Maria posted the advantage in ground balls (40-34) and face-off victories (26-5) on the evening. The AMCATS committed 34 turnovers and were just 6-for-20 on clear attempts in a losing effort.
THE KEEPERS:
SJC senior starter Brannon Gilbert (Gray, Maine) allowed two goals and made seven saves in 40:24 between the pipes to pick up the victory while sophomore Liam Greene (Mansfield, Mass.) yielded six goals with five stops in 19:36 of relief duty.
For Anna Maria, freshman Nicholas Lopez (Lowell, Mass.) registered 18 saves in the loss.
LEADERS – SAINT JOSEPH'S:
- Hopkins scored two goals with eight assists for 10 total points
- Lacy scored six goals on eight shots with an assist and a pair of ground balls
- Senior Xavier Michaud (Wales, Maine) registered two goals, two assists, and four ground balls
- Moscato and Calvin Heline (Amesbury, Mass.) chipped in with two goals apiece
- Freshman Matt Denman (Brentwood, N.H.) added a goal and an assist with five ground balls and two caused turnovers
- Defensively, sophomore Anthony Samiotes (Hampstead, N.H.) posted three ground balls and four caused turnovers and freshman Kevin Wood (Danvers, Mass.) notched four ground balls and a pair of caused turnovers
LEADERS – ANNA MARIA:
- Sophomore Hank Gittines (Shrewsbury, N.J.) scored three goals with an assist and four ground balls
- Junior Aiden Foster (Rehoboth, Mass.) netted a pair of goals
- Sophomore Liam Bedenkop (Marson Mills, Mass.) chipped in with a goal and an assist
- Sophomore Nathan Powers (Putney, Vt.) won 25-of-29 face-off attempts and picked up 16 ground balls
- Sophomore Jeff Robinson (Wayne, N.J.) picked up four ground balls and four caused turnovers

With the victory Saint Joseph's remains undefeated with a perfect 11-0 all-time record versus Anna Maria College.
