Monks Fall in Overtime Thriller to the Wildcats, 2-1

STANDISH, ME- The Saint Joseph's College Monks took on Johnson and Wales University in a conference match-up on Saturday morning in Standish.

After a scoreless first quarter, the Monks struck first when Senior Abbie Jacques  found the back of the net off a pass from sophomore Isabella Littler (Fayette, Maine), 21 minutes into the game. The Monks defense kept the Wildcats at bay through the remainder of the second and third quarters. At the 47 minute mark, the Wildcats responded to the first Monks goal with one of their own. The Monks and Wildcats remained locked in a stalemate through the conclusion of regular play and headed into a 10-minute overtime to determine the winner. The Wildcats scored the deciding goal to secure the win at 61:25.

In the middle of the field, Freshman Katie Yeaton (Farmington, Maine), Junior Sadie Tirrell (Naples, Maine), Junior Emilia Galimberti (Wolfeboro, New Hampshire), Freshman Gabby Thomas (Lewiston, Maine), Junior Haley Jackson (Lewiston, Maine), and Freshman Zoey Lailer (Limington, Maine) kept the game going back and forth for the full 60 minutes, plus the 9 minutes and 10 seconds of overtime. Freshman Sydney Lacombe (Mechanic Falls, Maine), Junior Chloe Grosso (Westbrook, Maine), and Junior Haley Brooks (Ossipee, New Hampshire) led the Monks on the defensive end.
