Monks Shutout Scots

STANDISH, Maine – Saint Joseph's College (9-9, 7-4) raced past Gordon College (1-17, 0-4), 6-0, in non-conference field hockey action at the SJC Athletics Complex on Monday night.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

The Monks kicked off the second scoring with a goal 8:10 into the game when Sadie Tirrell, assisted by Maya Waryas, put one into the back of the net. Sadie Tirrell (Naples, ME) scored the second goal of the game off a pass from Zoey Lailer (Limington, Maine) at the 17:28 mark. Less than three minutes later Junior Maya Waryas (Bellows Falls, Vt.), assisted by Zoey Lailer, brought the Monks lead to 3-0.
 
Kienna Haley (Scarborough, Maine), assisted by Sadie Tirrell, opened the scoring during the second half of the game in the 27th minute of play. Isabella Littler (Fayette, Maine) added a goal of her own, assisted by Emilia Galimberti (Wolfeboro, N.H.), at 43:47. 

Maya Waryas netted the lone goal for Saint Joseph's in the fourth quarter to cap the Monks scoring for the evening bring the final score to 6-0. 

TEAM STATS:

Saint Joseph's held sizeable leads in shots (33-1), shots on goal (23-0), and penalty corners (9-2) in the decisive victory.

THE KEEPERS:

SJC senior Kassidy Collins (Pittston, Maine) didn't see any action in net. Gordon goalkeeper Allyson Stauffer had 17 saves for the Scots.

HISTORICALLY SPEAKING:

With the triumph, Saint Joseph's improves to 6-4 all-time versus Gordon College and has now defeated the Scots in five-consecutive meetings dating back to the 2017 season.

Saint Joseph's will play at Simmons College on Wednesday in a conference tilt set to start at 5:00 PM.
