STANDISH, Maine – Saint Joseph's College topped Mitchell College in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) men's soccer action at the SJC Athletics Complex on Saturday afternoon.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
The Monks dominated the game early on despite a 0-0 first half with the Monks outshooting the Mariners 13-1. The Monks also held the 3-0 advantage in corner kick opportunities during the first 45 minutes of play. In the 59th minute of play Hayes Sweeney broke the stalemate netting the first goal of the game after a corner kick and assist from Rion Dos Santos. With 14 minutes left in the game, Dos Santos came up big again scoring of a free kick.
TEAM STATS:
Saint Joseph's held the lead in shots (22-5), shots on goal (13-3), and corner kicks (5-0).
THE KEEPERS:
Liam Foley made three saves in the shutout effort while Mitchell netminder Jesse Jenkins turned away 11shots in the setback.
