WORCESTER, Massachusetts – Aidan Callahan scored 29 points to help lead WP (2-0) I to an 80-73 win over the Saint Joseph's College Monks (1-2) on Friday night in Worcester during day one of the Ted Coghlin Tournament.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
WPI started out ahead with as much as a ten point lead. The Monks made a comeback, scoring 12 points off turnovers and five 2nd chance points, to regain the lead for the seventh and final time in the first half to enter the second with a two point lead.
The Engineers responded by opening the second half with a layup to tie the game. The Monks and Engineers battled for control with the lead changing five times. The Engineers out shot the Monks 60.87% to 36.7% in the second half to secure the win.
STATS OF THE GAME:
WPI held a 46-32 lead in points in the paint and shot 53.6% (30-56) from the floor in the victory.
LEADERS – SAINT JOSEPH'S:
- Junior John Paul Frazier (York, Maine) netted 19 points with three rebounds
- Senior Julian Llopiz (Boston, MA) came off the bench to score eight points with one board and a pair of assists
- Sophomore Remijo Wani (Portland, Maine) scored 13 points with six caroms
- Junior Wani Donato (Portland, Maine) added 13 points with two assists and five rebounds
- First-year Silvano Ismail (Portland, Maine) netted eight points and eight rebounds with four assists
LEADERS – WPI:
- Aidan Callahan posted 29 points, four rebounds, and five assists
- Nicholas Margetson scored 18 points with nine rebounds
- Tim Reidy added 14 points and a rebound
- Justin Molen contributed 11 points, six rebounds, and two assists
