NORTON, Mass. – Saint Joseph's College (0-1) fell to Bridgewater State University (1-0), 78-85, in the first round of the Wheaton College Tip-Off Classic on Friday evening. The contest was the 2024-25 season opener for both men's basketball programs.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
The Monks opened the scoring with a dunk in the first minute of play. The Bears responded with a layup in the second minute of play. The Bears and Monks would alternate leads with the Bears pulling ahead by eight points 12 minutes into the first half. The Monks slowly chipped away and made their come back with Silvano Ismail tying the game 32-32 with five minutes left in the first half. Bridgewater State finished the first half ahead by 2 points after a three pointer from Zach Taylor.
The Bears extended the lead to five over the first five minutes of the second half with Josh Campbell draining a pair of threes. Back to back layups and a free throw by Silvano Ismail cut the lead to 59-61 with 12:56 left on the clock but the Bears answered with consecutive three pointers and a layup to increase their lead by 10. The Monks were unable to come back from the 10 point deficit and the Bears held on for a 78-85 win.
STATS OF THE GAME:
Saint Joseph's shot 43.1% (31-72) from the field and 24.2.% (8-33) from three-point range while Bridgewater shot 39.1% (34-87) from the floor and 345% (10-29) from beyond the arc.
LEADERS – SAINT JOSEPH'S:
- Silvano Ismail scored 27 points with four assists, twelve rebounds, and four steals.
- John Paul Frazier tallied 16 points, four rebounds, two assists, and two blocks.
- Wani Donato pulled down nine rebounds with nine points
- Derek Salvatore added eight rebounds and nine points
- Sophomore Remijo Wani (Portland, Maine) added 11points, three blocks, and three assists
LEADERS – DICKINSON:
- Josh Campbell led the Bears with 22 points off a 8-for-22 shooting performance with seven rebounds
- Louis Jennings scored 22 points with six rebounds, three assists, and three blocked shots

Tonight's contest was the first between the Monks' and Bears' men's basketball teams.
