NEW LONDON, NH – Saint Joseph's College (1-5, 1-1 GNAC) suffered a 3-2 loss at the hands of Colby-Sawyer College (3-3, 1-1 GNAC) in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) field hockey matchup on Wednesday evening.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
The Monks got on the board first with a goal from Abbie Jacques (Mount Vernon, Maine), assisted by Emilia Galimberti (Wolfeboro, New Hampshire), in the 17th minute. Saint Joseph's kept Colby-Sawyer at bay until the 39:12 minute mark when Alyssa Slocum, assisted by Aili Carney, put one in the net. The chargers added another goal in the 50h minute of play with Maya Waryas (Bellows Falls, Vermont), assisted by Abbie Jacques (Mount Vernon, Maine), quickly countering the Chargers attempt to pull away in the 55th minute of play. The chargers tacked on the winning goal in double OT in the 73rd minute of play.
TEAM STATS:
Colby-Sawyer held the lead in shots (27-12), shots on goal (22-10), and penalty corners (15-2) in the victory.
THE KEEPERS:
SJC senior Kassidy Collins (Pittston, Maine) turned away 19 shots in the loss while CSC netminder Carly Bernard stopped seven.
HISTORICALLY SPEAKING:
For the Chargers, tonight's victory over the Monks is the second in program history.
