Monks Net Two to Beat AMCATS

PAXTON, MA - In a Great Northeast Athletic Conference clash on Friday, September 27th, the Monks of Saint Joseph's College (ME) showcased their prowess with a decisive 2-0 victory over the Anna Maria College field hockey team.

Saint Joseph's wasted no time in asserting their dominance, with Abbie Jacques finding the back of the net just 1:30 into the first quarter to give the Monks an early lead. Kienna Haley extended their advantage at 13:03 of the first quarter, putting Saint Joseph's ahead 2-0 as the quarter came to a close.

Despite a valiant effort from the AMCATS, particularly in defense, with Carly Dedrick making an impressive 18 saves on 20 shots faced, the team struggled to find their rhythm offensively. Dedrick's performance kept Anna Maria in the game as they entered the final quarter still trailing by two. However, the AMCATS were unable to convert on their opportunities.

The Monks dominated the offensive battle, outshooting Anna Maria 32-2, with Maya Waryas leading the charge with 11 shots. Kassidy Collins contributed solidly in goal for Saint Joseph's, making 2 saves to secure the shutout.

Ultimately, the Monks' strong start and solid defensive play secured their victory, leaving Anna Maria searching for answers as they move forward in the season.

The Monks are back in action Saturday October 5th at 11am in Standish during SJC's homecoming weekend.
