STANDISH, Maine – Saint Joseph's College of Maine showcased a resilient defensive performance but fell 1-0 to Wellesley College on Saturday afternoon. The lone goal of the match came late in the third quarter from Wellesley's Claudia Summers, marking her first career goal and securing the win for the Blue.
Senior goalkeeper Kassidy Collins (Gardiner, Maine) had a standout game, making 19 saves on 20 shots and keeping the Monks (0-2) in contention throughout. Despite Wellesley's 36-2 shot advantage and 21 penalty corners, Collins' exceptional play prevented further scoring.
Offensively, junior Maya Waryas (Bellows Falls, Vt.) was the primary threat for Saint Joseph's, recording both of the team's shots on goal. The Monks' defense was also supported by strong performances from Emilia Galimberti and Syndey Lacombe, who each contributed to the defensive effort.
